How to choose a sports sunglasses manufacturer in China: a buyer’s checklist

A practical checklist for vetting a sports eyewear supplier: moulds, sampling, quality control, compliance documents, communication and payment terms.

Choosing a manufacturer

Short answer: Choose a sports sunglasses manufacturer that owns or controls moulds for the styles you want, samples quickly with your actual logo and lens, documents quality checks at each stage, can show current lens test reports for your market, and answers technical questions within a working day. Start with a paid sample order before committing to bulk.

1. Mould ownership and range depth

A supplier with a deep catalogue of existing moulds lets you launch without tooling cost and gives you a path to extend the range later. Ask which styles are open moulds and which are restricted patents.

2. Sampling speed and accuracy

Ask for a sample with your logo, colour and lens, not just a stock sample. Watch how the supplier handles your brief: do they ask questions about lens category, hinge type and packaging, or do they simply say yes?

3. Quality control you can see

Good factories check materials on arrival, inspect after injection and after spraying, and run final AQL inspection. Ask for a sample inspection report from a recent order.

4. Compliance documents

Request current test reports for the lenses you will buy, matched to your market: EN ISO 12312-1, FDA drop-ball, ANSI Z80.3, AS/NZS 1067.1 or impact standards for tactical lines. Our compliance guide lists what to ask for.

5. Communication

Fast, specific answers in English, a single point of contact, and clear written confirmation of every spec change. Messaging apps such as WhatsApp make sampling rounds much faster.

6. Commercial terms

Get quantity breaks in writing, confirm what is included (lens, logo, pouch, packaging), agree the incoterm, and confirm the remedy for defects above the agreed AQL.

Red flags

  • Prices far below the market without a clear reason.
  • Refusal to send a custom sample before deposit.
  • No written specification sheet.
  • Test reports for a different product or more than a few years old.

Frequently asked questions

Should I pay for samples?

Usually yes. Paid samples with your logo and lens show how the factory really works. The sample cost is often credited against the first bulk order.

What payment terms are normal?

A deposit before production and the balance before shipping is the most common structure for first orders. Terms often relax after a few repeat orders.

How can I check quality without visiting?

Ask for photo and video reports at key production stages and appoint a third-party inspection company for a final random inspection before shipment.
